As a Voter in your district I’m writing to ask that you support legislation modifying existing laws within the Three Tier System of alcohol sales. SELF-DISTRIBUTION of beer is already legal in over 30 states because it's FAIR to small businesses and allows a FREE MARKET to exist in the Malt Beverage industry. Laws in those states already allow breweries the OPTION to Distribute a portion of their beer directly to Retailers without being forced to share profits with a third party, unless the relationship works for both of them. Breweries in those states create more jobs, attract more tourism dollars and contribute more to their state’s GDP. Craft beer contributed $3.6 billion dollars to Florida’s economy in 2019, imagine how much more would be generated if we had similar laws here! These changes would give these small businesses more control over their own product and create a system that is more equitable for all parties in the outdated 3 Tier System. With the onset of Covid-19, many smaller breweries (small businesses) are struggling to stay afloat and should have the ability to keep more of their own profits. This option would make Florida’s breweries better able to weather future disasters without relying on Government Aid. No other product in the state is required by law to: A) sell their product exclusively through a third party while B) simultaneously being bound to a life-long Franchise Agreement, regardless of the Distributor’s performance. Wineries can already sell their product directly Retailers. Distilled Spirit Manufacturers can switch Distributors if the relationship isn’t symbiotic. ONLY BREWERIES are prevented by law to do either of these things and it needs to change now! I am not asking to completely abolish the 3 Tier System, but rather, allow breweries the option of selling some of their own beer in a way that allows them to keep more of their hard- earned profits and make a system that’s fair to ALL parties involved in the 3 Tier System. As a Craft Beer Consumer and Registered Voter, I will cast my vote for Legislators who openly support changing these restrictive and imbalanced laws.
